Space Watch

Year 1949

The Birth of Shturmanskie (Navigator) watches, which make history in 1961 on April 12.  This watch worn in space by Yuri Gagarin, who was the 1st man who went to space.

Hmmmmmm..... April 12 holds special meaning for me too :)

1.   1st day I started working in my current job which lead to many progressive opportunities

2.   birth date of a special someone

This watches were not available to the general public.  It was specially designed for used in the military aviation of that time and apparently, issued to new graduates of the prestigious Orenberg Flight School.
Yuri Gagarin would have been supplied with the same Sturmanskie watch upon his graduation from Orenberg.

Only recently, I made an order for the Shturmanskie similar to Yuri Gagarin was wearing.

Reason:-

1.  40th anniversary Gagarin watch - using the 2416 movement

2.  50th anniversary Gagarin watch - using the Poljot 2609 movement

3.  1st MWF, 15 Jewels watch movement dated 3-51 (3rd quater, year 1951)

From articles I read, the Poljot 2609 movement seems to be a good caliber and size 38mm.  I have poor eyesight, the size of watch is very important...hmmmm... anatomically declining....

So!!

I was torn in between this and the 1951 1st MWF make, size 33mm.  Finally, I decided to buy both.....hmmmmm... why? because it holds a very special meaning to the space watch history.
